What It Means
Naturalization is the process by which eligible legal immigrants become U.S. citizens. Becoming a citizen isn’t easy, but it has may benefits both for the immigrant and for society as a whole. Citizenship provides us with the status to vote, travel freely, bring close family members to the U.S. without long waits, and assume the full rights and responsibilities of being an American. We at the National Immigration Forum believe everything we do should maximize the ability of qualified immigrants to become full citizens. We want to promote the American Dream by encouraging immigrants to become citizens and to make sure the application process is more efficient so immigrants are not discouraged from applying.
