As a 9 year old, I left Honduras in search of my mother who came to the US to escape Hurricane Mitch. I was left behind with aging granparents. Soon they both passed away and I was alone. It took years to re build our mountain village of Mar Axul. Even today, there is no electricty, only a one room school, small church and no medical care, law enforcement or judicial system. In the 7 years I have been in the US, I now have a 4.0 GPA and am a member of National Honor Society. Please visit my video story, "Candelario: A Young Immigrant's Story" on Youtube. Thanks,

They invited me into their homes to visit and eat, they often fed me and my children, they offered childcare and friendship for my three kids, and helped us to learn Spanish. When I worried about life, they taught me to sing, "Un día a la vez" and to just keep working hard. My Mexican immigrant neighbors pulled me out of a bout of depression and a life of poverty. Les debo mi vida. I will always owe them more th... Read More...
