Marie T. Martinez's Story

Marie T. Martinez

Country of Origin: Mexico City
My family came to the US in the year: 1970
The first person in my family to move to the US was: Manuel Trigos
My family is grateful for the American Dream because: Dreams Have Become True
As long as I can remember, my parents have always instilled the importance of education and drilled in us that knowledge is always to be cherished and could never be taken away. In fact, as far as I can remember, my mother was always in pursuit of education herself. So, it is no surprise that my mom has been my role model, and because of her example, I worked full time and went to school full time to obtain a BA and a Masters degree.
And althought our life has been dificult, we knew that it was in this great country, that our dreams could become a reality.
My one wish today is that all the citizens of the US could see that we are hard-working people, and that they would put their hatred away and allow immigrants the opportunity to prove that they are human and that they are also in search to not just better their lives, but to be productive members of society.
